Rebecca Petrie was apparently lifeless when her friends found her at the bottom of the stairway. After five and a half months in the ICU, a number of surgeries, and another 14 months in hospital rehabilitation, she has emerged even more convinced of God's love and all-sufficient grace. This book tells her story. Now, as before the fateful accident in 2001, Rebecca Petrie is a woman of God called to encourage and help those God has placed around her. She and her husband Paul have lived in Belgium for over 20 years and continue to facilitate gatherings around Jesus in countries across Europe, North America and Africa.

About the Author
Rebecca Petrie was born in western Pennsylvania in 1945. She attended Asbury College, Wilmore, KY, where she met her husband Paul. Paul and Rebecca were involved for two decades in inner city ministry, drug rehabilitation, teaching, and church planting in North America, Africa, and Europe. Rebecca maintained an active Bible teaching ministry through these years. In 1985 Paul and Rebecca founded International Outreach Ministries (IOM). IOM works in many developing countries through educational, medical, and development initiatives with the goal of revealing Jesus through acts of love and mercy. In 1986 Paul and Rebecca moved to Belgium. They have 4 children.

This book by Rebecca achieves the fine line of making you aware of a horrific tragedy and loss, without making that the focal point, which is her and her husband Paul's relationship with Jesus Christ and how He has used that change in their lives to the benefit of all who read this book and who have interacted with them personally. A compelling and excellant read.

Amazingly personal and impactful

I have never read such a deeply personal account of what from the outside would be appear to be a tragedy but in reality becomes something on a miracle. Rebecca and Paul Petrie have opened their lives to us in an extremely intimate way and allowed us to be a part of the development of extraordinary relationships - with God, with each other and with the outside world.
What was it about Rebecca Petrie, that the doctor in charge of her ICU would call her, a quadriplegic on a ventilator, "sunshine?" The love of God shone through then and continues to shine through in this book.
A truly amazing and inspiring book.

This is a powerful, yet easy-reading, true story of a beautiful Christian lady. Unfortunately many of us who call ourselves Christians don't do well when illnesses or accidents hit. But if we could learn to respond to trauma/tragedy as Rebecca has chosen to do, the whole world would be a better place. May we each learn from and be blessed by her example!
