A spell for the haunting and the haunted

Okay, here's the thing: The book is not the entire thing and yet it is. The book contains a spell, an incantation, that when evoked properly becomes magic. That is the special accomplishment of Mr. O'Brien. He knows his medium (it is the concentrated yet insubstantial ether between audience and actor, memory and experience) and he exploits it. BUT... buy this playscript. Read it. Marvel at its conventions. Let its words work on you. They will burrow into your head and catch in the throat of your inner voice. Then go find a chair or a shading tree, a place to sit and imagine the characters in action, or go to a theatre where the play is being produced and let them show you. It is theatrical and literate and penetrating and legitimate and lingering. A play about a haunting that is that thing itself.
