About the Author
Mike Dash read history at Cambridge and received his PhD from the University of London. Having worked for the Fortean Times and The Ministry of Sound, he is now setting up his own company.

True horror

A fascinating study of a hideous event. Better written and more compelling than Peter Fitsimons later attempt. The events covered in the book are almost unbelievable, however they happened and Dash conveys the horror, both of the behaviour of the mutineers and later the cruelty inflicted on them as punishment. Despite the gruesome nature of the subject it is a fascinating topic, the book is well worth reading, recommended.

The details sank me.

Having been to that region I found the story brutal but interesting. There was, for me, too much background detail about the why's, hows and who's. I was looking for a good read. The story about the trip out, the wreck, island life and Batavia I found very interesting but digging into the make up of the main players and the locating of the remains all those years later lost me a bit.

Very Well Researched.

The research for this literature is exceptional. This book is a very well rounded account of the events, giving a much more detailed account of the background feeding into the events that eventually unfolded.
